Is North Carolina the most progressive/liberal state in the South?

As a state, NC is one of the more progressive of the southern areas, especially Raleigh. There are a lot of research universities that attract liberals from the north. There are pockets of liberals elsewhere in the South (ie. Atlanta), but generally they aren't as large.

Hi I am a new landlord, decided to rent my house out to a older lady and her daughter. After they were in for 2 weeks she asked if her friend could move in to help with the rent. I agreed to this but told her she needed to be put on the lease. I didn't hear anything back, then a couple weeks later I went over to the house, was talking to the neighbor. I had a friend that stayed with me, since I owned my house I went to JAG and they gave me a standard lease that we had them notarize. This helped my friend start her BAH, since she was staying with me it was totally legal and legit. Use JAG its free. Even if its temporary. Then when you start collecting BAH you can go out and get an apartment and enter into a new lease that is more permanent. Its a catch 22 you need BAH to get an apartment but you cant get an apartment without BAH.

Talk with your attorney because it would be a lot easier if he would file the paperwork for eviction (and list your grandmother's circumstances and your power of attorney and that should get them out pronto. Here in FL you'd need to hand them a 3-day notice of eviction or do it by certified mail return receipt. Then the attorney could file a paper and judge approve it and the sheriff would be sent out to the place, knock on their door and ask them to leave. If you tell the sheriff that they've been a problem then the sheriff would stand there and wait until they leave. Here you cannot toss their belongings out on the street you must put it into storage for them and then if they don't claim it there they lose it for good. You'd call a PUD or POD and fill it and then also charge them for the storage fee. The judge would issue a judgment for what they yet owe you and for anything they messed up while there. You'd need to supply the court the proof of how much they paid and how much they didn't, a copy of the lease, pictures of what they messed up or you had to clean or fix, etc.

I cannot say which is the better for your course but Durham is a fine city. It has a twenty four hour bus to Newcastle upon Tyne and I recommend both the Colpitts Hotel, up the hill behind the bus station and The Victoria Inn at Hallgarth Street which is up the hill and on the way to Houghall College. Hello there, I need some help. Basically i am currently doing my a levels and in the lower sixth, however im worried because i really want to get into a specific university (Durham) to do Geophysics, but i need AAB. I have tried the best i could possibly do so far and i got 2 C's January which i was really really upset about and my upcoming exams and pretty dam hard :/ im really worried because this is what i want to do for the rest of my life and durham is just perfect. i work so hard to get higher grades. I do maths, physics, chemistry and geography. my january module in maths was weird because it was rather alot harder than previous years i had completed all the past papers and got mostly A's in all of them. physics is stupidly hard cuz they can catch you out in such little places. I just wondered what can i do? i really dont want to have to do a different university course at a different university because i know for a fact i will just drop out due to being not intererested.. is there anything i can do to maybe get a place? a few people have mentioned because of the new 2012 system there will be alot less competition to get into those universities. im aiming as high as i can physically do i just dont know if its high enough. Im a 13 yr old girl, i have severe depression, and im suicidal. I have had depression for 5 months now, and its killing me. I get suicidal thoughts daily, and close to 1 attempt. My parents know im depressed and suicidal but they dont know how bad it is. I keep thinking about stabbing myself, or getting my dads gun and shooting myself, but i try my best not to, instead i cut myself. I noticed my cutting is becoming worse, and deeper. I am trying to avoid cutting my wrist because its now too noticeable and i dont want people to see it, so now i cut on my ankles, and my elbow. I just cut my elbow and my cuts are getting deeper. I know i need help. My parents are finally taking me to a physcologist this friday, Do they look and try to find cuts, or will they ask? From what ive wrote is it likely im going to be put on antidepressants?, and what are my chances of being admitted to a mental hospital?

Can I sue my apartment complex?

I was held at gun point and robbed right outside my apartment. The main light by my apartment is not working, making it very dark. The guy hide in a dark corner waiting for someone to walk by. I contacted my apartment office and told them what happened. They said they would fix the light and get a security guard. When I moved in I was told that there was a guard on duty 24/7 but you never see a person just a car parked outside the gate. Gang stalking is when a group of people decide to target an individual and attempt to control aspects of that individual’s life and monitor them 24/7. There is this bunch of people who i don't know anything about. i don't know who they are, what they want but i know they are having great pleasure to obsessing about me online. They find me anywhere i go. Chat rooms, online forums, hacking my emails, face book account.. etc. They are obsessed about me, what do i do, where do i live. They are quite stupid because it is very easy to see their stalking tactics. I went to a new chat room that i have never been before and they found me there also. Do I stand a good chance of getting into a top university with these GCSE's?

I'm doing my GCSEs at the moment so I'm no expert but my brother is at a good University doing the best business course in the country. Those grades look pretty good to me! From my understanding though, obviously GCSEs are important, but it's really A levels that Uni's will look at and possibly if they are deciding between two people that have the same A level results then they would look at GCSEs in more detail to help decide. I was always told that it's all about getting onto the next stage - so I've got to do well enough in my GCSEs to get into College, then well enough in my A levels to get into Uni etc. But obviously they will refer back for some things. Is it normal that after 5 months it is still effecting me?

Oh okay. I was in a relationship for like 4 months and I fell in love with him. It was pretty intense since we kind of started living with each other. It just happened. There were red flags like when he grabbed me in finger me without my permission. I was fighting him and telling him to stopped. I shutdown after getting out of his arm and he didn't understand why I was upset. I did kick him out of my life but then he came back. He was sorry. ... So we continued with the relationship and he cheated on me, after meeting my family. I tried to make it work and things got worst and worst. Landlord playing games returning my security deposit?

So the only way to hold open the window is with a 2x4 wood. So clearly, I sent these to my landlord and she said if i go on the property she will call 911 then said sorry you broke the window. Is this workplace harrassment?

I work overnight on a mental health unit. Recently, my manager use still photos from surveillance cameras mounted on the unit and laid them in the employee common area to highlight no-nos for employees. There were comments written such as 'badge not visible', 'no shoes on', 'not compliant with dress code', etc. One of my colleagues removed the photos and complained. I still to this day have not seen them since they were only visible to others while I was off 2 days. Noone has approached me from management to discuss the violations of policy. I am certainly not the only person who goes shoeless at night, or any of the other policy violations, but I find it interesting that they singled me out, seeing that there is a push to get rid of alot of the veteran staff in favor of new blood. There also appears to be an animosity toward me here by the new administration, I may have upstaged the new manager days before by de-escalating a group of clients in a situation that he lost control of. Of legal note: I work in Massachusetts, not sure what the laws here say about this. Also, the cameras are intended to protect staff and clients in the event of a restraint, but increasingly have been used to 'catch' staff in policy violations. The video feed goes to the main hospital; we are a satellite 60 miles away.

I just signed a lease for a condo and found out that the landlord owes three years in back taxes. What do I do?

Then maybe at six months when you start to give her baby food you can pump or switch to bottle feeding. My landlord asked if we would mow the lawn, and when we asked if we could get a rent break for doing it, she freaked out, stating that she was going to raise the rent or kick our third roommate out. We also know from Burlington law that she needs to give us 90 days written notice in order to raise our rent. The problem is is that she is unreasonable, and if we don't give in to her demand to start paying an extra $100 by August first (which she has asked for by text message, not in written notice, and gave us less than 60 days notice for) and instead request formal written notice, I am 100% positive that when she does give us written notice, it will be to raise the rent by at least $300, if not more. We signed an 18 month lease with her, which doesn't end until April, and had heard from our local tenant's association that we can't be held to a lease of more than 12 months unless it's been registered with the clerk's office, which it hasn't been. Unfortunately, the tenant's association hasn't been able to find this statute, and when I spoke to a local lawyer, he didn't know anything about it either. He suggested that we just give her notice anyways, break the lease, and let her take us to court. If we can't leave legally until April, what should we do? If we try to fight back and insist on notice, we could be stuck dealing with substantially higher rent and her wrath for almost 10 more months. Advice?

Is it o.k. for another tenant to block my car in so I can't get out of my driveway?

I share a home (duplex) with another tenant. He has a space for his car (and enough space for someone to park their car in back (his friend or whomever)..............Then there is a space for the landlord and his truck and then one for me....................my space isn't really big enough for two cars but mine fits just fine; so that is no issue. The issue is this........Instead of the other tenants "guests" parking on the road, they park in back of me sideways (so they are just off the road and blocking me in. There is no possible way to get my car out unless I go to the other side of the house and ask them to move. My job requires me to "get up and go" sometimes within a few minutes notice (I work as a coordinator of specific services).......anyway........I don't want to have to go up and go pound on their door and ask for them to move for me every time..........who knows if I'll even have a space when I get back..............I asked the landlord what to do because I am frankly sick of complaining about everything they "rudely" do. He said to just park so far back that no one could possibly park in back of me. O.K. that sounds good. So I took my final exam for history. The test was ok in difficulty, I had a C in that class and with at least a B in the exam, my final grade would be at least a B+. Here's the problem, I didn't finish the test and my teacher never told me I couldn't finish it so I end up missing automatically 35 questions out of 200. Throughout the school year, my teacher would always let his students finish tests after school, but this time, the biggest test of the year, he gives me a time limit when he never announced it. I had 2 hours to finish 200 questions, for people who thoroughly read questions and answers, that's too little time. And this conflict escalates to the school too cause the school sets the final exam dates. My final exam date was the last day of freaking school so there was no chance to finish the test since teachers had to turn in grades immediately. Unlike the school I am in now, my old school did the exams 1 week before school ends so that if you don't finish, you have plenty of time to finish afterwards, that's not fair. Plus, teachers actually encourage you to take your time in tests, not to rush, and to carefully read each question and answer, yet, my teacher says that and gives me a huge test with very little time. So basically my best score can a 165 out of 200, which is bad and I know I didn't do too well. You should never have to be timed for huge final exams, we should always take our time cause that can affect my career after high school. I mean, who knows? Maybe now I can't accepted by some colleges now since I don't have A's and B's now. What do you think?

Can a landlord list a property at a certain amount and change it higher right before you move in?

Now 30 days later, the previous tenants have vacated the property and I'm about to sign my lease the rental company upped the rent $50 just because "the owner decided it was worth more" and because we're going from a 2 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom house (the property manager literally said this) and the $750 was the same as what were paying for our 2 bedroom. Can my landlord still charge me for "damages" if he already returned my security deposit?

My landlord returned the security deposit within 30 days of the end of the lease (like he was supposed to according to law), but on top of having deducted money for normal wear and tear (e.g. touch up paint, bathroom cleaning fees, etc), he's now asking for more money for damage that we supposedly did to the house even after he'd already returned our deposits. How can I be credited by my landlord for money I spent trying to obtain a certificate of occupancy?

i'm renting out the first floor of a building as a restaurant in NYC, the building's C of O is not for a restaurant when it was converted 5 yrs ago by previous tenant. I'm aware of the fact that there is no CO and signed a lease that I would have to obtain the C of O no matter the cost. It's been more than a year and a lot of concerns from the NYC building dept has extended the expected time of completion, but it's almost there and I do expect to complete. Money was spent for renovations and architect fees to ensure the approval from the DOB, inspections have been passed but there are more to go. I was too naive to think that it was alright to rent a place with no C of O. If proper authorities find out that the restaurant does not have a CO, that it is being worked on, but the DOB evicts me anyway, will I be able to sue my landlord for expenses paid for renovations and professional fees invested into the building? Well for the tack stuff I've never been in a lease where they provide tack so you're lucky if you do find someone to provide it and they usually charge extra. If you have never really done english then you need lessons. You ride a lot different than in western, there's more balance required in english. The only horse in that ad I would recommend for you would be "Calise "Spungold Givemewings" as it sounds like a patient horse as even though you have been riding for a long time you'll find your balance won't be very strong in english where you'll want an easier horse. That last horse also does western so you could always stick to western. If I were you I would just get a cheap saddle off of ebay (I had an english saddle from there for about 50$) unless you want quality then go with doversaddlery.com or maybe stateline.com. Western saddles will be more expensive though.

I'm taking 2 suitcases and was thinking if I put the TV in one suitcase alone, maybe wrapped in something to protect it, I'm wondering if that would cause it to damage even if I was careful in the way I took it there. Assured shorthold tenancy ending, what are my options?

I, along with 2 others, have an assured shorthold tenancy for a period of 6 months which ends on the 7th of July. When we were signing this in January the landlord informed us that she had other people moving in in July, and so with the tenancy coming to an end we have found a new house to move to on 7th July. However, when we asked the landlord what she wanted us to do with our keys at the end of the lease, she said that we had not served her with notice, and would continue to be liable for the rent until we gave her 1 months notice. We acted in reliance of what we were told by the landlord in January, and now find ourselves in the position where we may have to pay rent on 2 properties. Where do we stand?

How common is it for ferrets to dig into walls?

ive had ferrets for ages and they have never tried digging into my walls. the only issue i have with them is scratching at my sliding door which has bits of wood come off and it looks stupid. i dont think ferrets normally do that. i think it would have to be incredibly bored to actually get through a wall.. and then the owners didnt even stop it? im sure it would take days for a ferret to actually get through the wall and make a hole.. it would be done with contant scratching or biting.. that seems a bit odd. sorry but i dont see how that can happen in just casual play. i think they were irresponsible owners.

Is Microsoft failing to honor points for their recent two year subscription plus 1600 points offer?

Back in October '10 I signed up for the two year 84.99 subscription plus 1600 points. I never received any email or in-console confirmation of the points (just the two years already charged to my card). I've talked to at least 5 people at Xbox and it seems their trying to cover their mistakes. One person denied they had the deal. Another said I would get my points. And yet another says I just signed up for the two years. I've escalated the call to two different supervisors and I refuse to give any ground. I even told them I would cancel my Gold for a full refund and the guy had the nerve to tell me it was past 30 days for a full refund. I told him I didn't care if they escalated it all the way up to Bill Gates. My guess is if I'm having this much trouble getting these points then so are a lot of other people. I plan to start a Facebook page if there's enough people being screwed and I will even go as far as to try to start a class-action lawsuit for Microsoft's bait-and-switch Xbox live tactics. I even have one of their customer service reps on record saying they don't show anywhere with your subscription renewal details regarding any extra points or freebie/extras. This is beyond ridiculous and as Tom Petty says... I won't back down. So how many more of you out there will speak up?

He's 26 and attending community college. She's 86 and loves him dearly. He uses her place like a crash pad and has been treating her like an ATM machine--to the tune of 500-plus dollars a month. However, she's not made of money, and even if she's not fully financially savvy or able to see what's wrong with this picture, she's in great physical health for someone her age, could live well into her 90s, and will need her income. Even worse, I foresee this escalating as he seems to be increasingly dependent on her largess. No, I don't think I can get her declared mentally incompetent, and don't want to take such extreme measures, but I just don't know how I can get the nephew to change what strikes me as predatory habits. Sounds like your 2 year old is more mature than your husband. If you have to worry about him hurting your son, which it sounds like you do, you need to leave him. Even if he's not physically abusive emotional and verbal abuse effects kids just as badly and that would be a terrible way for your son to grow up. And throwing things at the cats is animal cruelty.

SHE THINKS SHES THE OWNER. u need to show your the owner. go to the pets supply store and buy some bitter spray. and every time shes aggressive spray a squirt in her mouth. she'll soon learn your in control. if u still cant get her to stop find a local pet obedience training place. i wouldn't go to a obedience class in pet smart or something like that. u have to find a personal business. and tell them whats the problem and they should be able to show other ways i cant explain.

Questions about my lease?

So me and my now ex-girlfriend signed a year long lease in November 2010. We broke up and she hasn't been staying here since April. She has continued to pay me her half of the rent. She tried to be let out of the lease this month and my landlord (and the real estate company they work with) said no. The lease doesn't say I pay half, she pays half. I'm worried she is going to say screw it and not pay her half and walk away with no consequences and the rent will fall on me. I cannot afford to live in this apartment alone. So I guess my question is if she doesn't pay and there are no consequences for her, then there will be no consequences for me if I just don't pay and move out?

I am studying in UK uni but now i'm in Thailand doing my paper from home. I wrote a mitigating circumstance to extent my research project. Actually, the project was already extended till 30 june. But i was unable to do the project very well.I have been losing motivation, concentration, interest to do things, and insomnia. I know that I have problem but in Thailand, we don't normally go to psychiatrist (or at lease for my family, my parents think that people who go to psychiatrist are crazy). However, I decided to go to psychiatrist and was diagnosed of having "Bipolar Depression". I contact the university on 20th, went to the doctor on 21st, and submit the mitigating circumstance on 24th. I'm now so worried...They didn't email me back yet. Do you think they will grant me another extension?
