What did i see falling from the sky?

I am not sure what it could be, but it is unlikely a meteorite. meteorites are travelling at a high velocity, so the friction from earth's atmosphere makes them burn. That is why we can see them and refer to them as shooting stars, so it would not be black. Small meteors generally burn up from this friction before reaching the ground. It takes a larger meteor to make it to the ground (at which point they become called meteorites).
